Dogen Sangha is a Buddhist group based in
Tokyo. We follow the teachings of Master Dogen, a 13th century
Japanese monk, and offer the opportunity to practice Zazen and study
Buddhism based on the guidance of our founder Gudo
Wafu Nishijima. @
We hold meetings on Saturdays at the Young
Buddhists Association in Tokyo. We also hold Zazen
retreats
in
May and September at Tokei-in Temple in Shizuoka.
Some of Gudo Nishijima's students have started Buddhist groups outside
Japan. You can find more information on our overseas
groups page.
Gudo Nishijima roshi retired from
lecturing in 2005. He now devotes his time to his writing, and
publishes a blog about Buddhism at http://gudoblog-e.blogspot.com/.
He also made a short video demonstration about how
to practice zazen.
To celebrate his 90th birthday, Nishijima-sensei gave a
talk on November 28, 2009 about his life and zen practice. Dogen Sangha
Tokyo presented him with birthday gifts and greetings, and then we had
a celebratory dinner of delicious Indian food.
Starting in April 2009, we will have sitting every Saturday! Please
check the schedule.
